Escape Vegas Date: Surfer Beach Hotel San Diego

If you listen to the show you may be familiar with our sponsor the Surfer Beach Hotel. Johnny our host is a huge fan and has been recommending it to Las Vegans for years. This is the place to visit when you are ready to get away from “tourist” centered vacationing and simply relax.

San Diego is a great escape from Las Vegas because when we are cold, they are not, when we are hot, they are cool. Check out the weather.

Unlike the trip our interns took requiring the replacement of the headboard in the room they stayed in. (Just listen to the commercial) This was a family trip. Ten minutes from our day at SeaWorld we arrived at the Surfer Beach. Johnny was right when he says that this is the place you go to for a hotel with personality. The front desk staff is enthusiastic about the area with recommendations for anything you may need during your stay.

I loved our room. I am accustomed to Las Vegas rooms where every single room all looks the same with identical lay outs. Our room was cozy with a cute little balcony over the heated pool. Direct beach access is a huge plus.

We enjoyed going out for a walk to see the boardwalk and catching views of the sunset. It was especially charming the night we visited with a guitar player downstairs playing in the boardwalk coffee shop. It was a great experience just to sit there and soak in the beach vibe as a family.

Next door are a couple of food stands including a taco shack that tempted us all night. Our kids noticed the handmade ice cream sign too. Both places had not re-opened for business by the time we checked just giving us another reason to return in the future.

Next door is also a beach rental shop that we can’t wait to visit so we can do both the experience for our younger kids of playing on the beach while letting our pre-teens experience bike riding or surfing at the beach.

This is a real surfer beach. You can watch them do their thing in the water from dawn til dusk.

We will definitely be back as a family. When we were checking out I noticed that the hotel also offers a suite with a full kitchen that sleeps 8! With a grocery store walking distance from the hotel our next getaway can be even more laid back dining in room (not to mention more affordable.)

You can also save money when you travel as a family by purchasing city pass package. These cards give you unlimited admissions to attractions at one set price. The Surfer Beach offers a variety of packages incorporating the Go San Diego card.

As a place to go and do nothing but stay there and enjoy the beach life – Surfer Beach has you covered!
